Impressions Day Delivers Prep and Preview for Pre-dental Students | Dental School – Boston University

Seventy-three dental student hopefuls spent Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) learning from current students, staff, and faculty how to turn their dental career hopes to reality.
Impressions Day—a flagship event for Student National Dental Association (SNDA) chapters nationwide—was organized by GSDM’s SNDA chapter along with the School’s American Student Dental Association (ASDA) and Hispanic Student Dental Association (HSDA) chapters. There were nearly twice as many visiting students as there were at the first Impressions Day held by GSDM in 2013.
“In short, the day went great,” said SNDA President-Ryan Pasiewicz. The visiting pre-dental students were given both a preview of life as a dental student and tips for successful admission. The day included a presentation by Director of Diversity & Multicultural Affairs Dr. Larry Dunham, a résumé-writing presentation with Career Resources Coordinator Elizabeth Pinone, a presentation by Kaplan on the Dental Admissions Test, interviewing skills workshops, demonstrations in the Simulation Learning Center, and tours of the Dental School. A highlight of the day was a visit by Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter, who welcomed the pre-dental students and fielded their questions.
Assistant Dean of Students Dr. Calabrese said, “This is an outstanding opportunity for pre-dental students to interact with dental students to better understand the demands that they will face in dental school.” He continued, “I was pleased with the strong turnout and proud of the dedication and hard work that our students put in to make this such a successful event.”
“I am proud to see our Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine community extend a helping hand to pre-dental students facing the application process,” said Dean Hutter. “It was a pleasure to see so many students with a strong interest in dentistry.”
